Maglic
On the very top of steep, separated hill, some 30 km southwest from Kraljevo, there is the medieval town Maglič.
It is surrounded with steep cliffs, so the access to the town is very difficult. Its origin hasn’t been explained till nowadays. It is believed that the town was built after Mongolian invasion in 1240.
The first written data about this medieval town come from 1337, from the time of archbishop Danilo II, who has built palaces and cells on Maglič, beside those that have already existed.
Maglic Today
Today, Maglič is one of our most famous medieval towns.
Rough terrain of hill’s plateau has made influence on the foundation of the town: it has the form of expensed, unequal polygon of 2, 190 m2 (it is long 100 m, and its biggest wide is 40 m).
It is surrounded with thick walls; it has ten towers that are around 10 m and the main (donžon) tower 20 m high. The main entrance is in the north side. The inside area of the town is divided into two yards: the smaller one, that is empty, and the bigger, where are remains of palaces, the church of St. George, and several buildings, and also ruins of bakery and two water cisterns.
